Perseus of Macedon
Last king of Macedon. Rebuilt Macedonian military power sufficiently to alarm Rome, triggering the Third Macedonian War (171-168 BCE). His phalanx was annihilated at Pydna by Lucius Aemilius Paullus. He fled to Samothrace and surrendered; led in Paullus's triumph in Rome. Died in captivity at Alba Fucens. With him the Antigonid dynasty and independent Macedon came to an end.
