Peter Paul Rubens

The supreme exponent of Flemish Baroque painting and one of the most prolific artists in history. His studio produced over 1,400 works. As a diplomat he negotiated the peace between Spain and England (1630) while painting for both courts — a rare combination of artistic genius and political acumen. His lush, energetic canvases defined Baroque sensuality.
