Phidias
Phidias was the greatest sculptor of ancient Greece, appointed by Pericles as superintendent of all artistic works on the Athenian Acropolis. He created the colossal chryselephantine statues of Athena inside the Parthenon and Zeus at Olympia, the latter considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. His mastery of idealized human form profoundly shaped the course of Greek and Western art.
