Philip II Augustus
Philip II Augustus was the most powerful Capetian king of the medieval period, tripling the royal domain by stripping the Plantagenets of Normandy, Anjou, Maine, and Touraine. His decisive victory at Bouvines in 1214 cemented French dominance in western Europe. He transformed Paris into a true capital with paved streets, new walls, and the beginnings of the Louvre.
