Philip III of France
Philip III, called 'the Bold,' inherited a kingdom at its medieval height and expanded it through inheritance of Poitou and Toulouse. He launched the ill-fated Aragonese Crusade in 1285, dying of dysentery during the retreat. His reign bridged the saintly rule of Louis IX and the assertive kingship of Philip IV.
