Giovanni Vincenzo Antonio Ganganelli, pope 1769–1774. Under pressure from the Bourbon courts of France, Spain, and Portugal, he suppressed the Society of Jesus in 1773 with the brief Dominus ac Redemptor — one of the most consequential and controversial papal decisions of the century. He died a year later, his health broken.
