Robert Adam

Studied the ruins of Diocletian's palace at Split and turned what he found into a complete interior style — ceilings, plasterwork, furniture and doorknobs designed as one scheme. With his brother he ran an architectural business at industrial scale, and the Adam manner shaped British and American interiors for a generation.
