Romulus
Legendary founder and first king of Rome (traditionally 753-716 BCE). With his twin brother Remus he was said to have founded the city in 753 BCE on the Palatine Hill, establishing the Senate, the army, and the asylum that drew Rome's first citizens. The 'Rape of the Sabine Women' and subsequent union with the Sabines, and his mysterious disappearance (later deified as the god Quirinus), are central to Rome's foundation myth.
