Roxane

Roxane was the daughter of the Bactrian nobleman Oxyartes and was captured when Alexander the Great seized her father's stronghold in 327 BCE. Alexander's decision to marry her rather than take her as a concubine was unusual and politically significant, representing his intention to integrate Persian and Macedonian cultures. She was pregnant at the time of Alexander's death in 323 BCE and gave birth to his posthumous son, Alexander IV. Backed by Olympias and the Macedonian infantry, she had Stateira II (another of Alexander's wives) and her sister murdered. She and Alexander IV were under the protection of various regents before being captured by Cassander, who had them both killed around 310 BCE.
