Samuel Morse

Samuel Morse demonstrated the electric telegraph in 1837 and patented Morse code in 1840. The 1844 Baltimore–Washington line inaugurated long-distance instantaneous communication; the Atlantic Telegraph Cable (1866) united continents and compressed global information timescales from weeks to seconds.
