Sargon II
Sargon II completed the conquest of Samaria begun by his predecessor Shalmaneser V, deporting 27,290 Israelites. He defeated Urartu, Babylon, and numerous Levantine kingdoms. His annals are among the most detailed surviving Assyrian royal texts. He died in battle in Anatolia — an ill omen his successors attributed to sacrilege.
