Scipio Aemilianus
Scipio Africanus the Younger (son of Paullus Macedonicus, adoptive grandson of Scipio Africanus the Elder) ended Carthage's existence after a three-year siege, razing the city and salting the earth. He was a close friend and patron of the historian Polybius and a centre of Rome's Hellenophile cultural circle.
