Simon bar Kokhba
Leader of the Bar Kokhba Revolt (132-135 CE), the last major Jewish revolt against Rome. Acclaimed as a messianic figure — 'Son of a Star' — by the rabbi Akiva. Briefly recaptured Jerusalem and established a quasi-independent Jewish state. Defeated by Julius Severus after three years; died at the fortress of Bethar. His actual letters to commanders survive in Dead Sea caves.
