Socrates
Socrates was an Athenian philosopher regarded as one of the founders of Western philosophy, known for his method of questioning — the Socratic method — that sought to expose contradictions and arrive at truth. He left no writings of his own; his ideas are preserved through the dialogues of his students Plato and Xenophon. He was tried for impiety and corrupting the youth of Athens, and executed by drinking hemlock in 399 BC.
