Surena (Parthian General)

Parthian nobleman who commanded the force that annihilated Crassus's army at Carrhae in 53 BCE — Rome's worst military disaster in the East. Used mobile horse archers and a camel-train resupply to sustain arrow fire indefinitely, a tactic Roman commanders had never encountered. After his victory King Orodes II had him executed, fearing his fame.
