Túpac Amaru II
José Gabriel Condorcanqui took the name Túpac Amaru II and led the largest indigenous uprising in Spanish American colonial history (1780-1781). Motivated by colonial forced labour and taxation, his rebellion attracted indigenous, mestizo, and some Creole support before being violently suppressed. He was publicly executed with his family in Cusco in May 1781.
