Tacitus
Publius Cornelius Tacitus wrote under Trajan after surviving Domitian's reign of terror. His works cover the Julio-Claudian dynasty (Annals) and the year of the four emperors through the Flavians (Histories). His portrait of Tiberius as a dissembling tyrant has shaped how the emperor has been understood ever since.
