Tecumseh
Shawnee leader (c. 1768–1813) who built the most extensive pan-Indian confederacy in North American history, allying with the British during the War of 1812 to resist American expansion; killed at the Battle of the Thames in present-day Ontario on 5 October 1813, his death dissolved the confederacy and opened the Old Northwest to American settlement.
