Tiberius Gracchus
Tiberius Gracchus was a Roman tribune who attempted to address Rome's growing landlessness and inequality by proposing agrarian reforms that would redistribute public land to the poor. His reforms provoked fierce opposition from the senatorial aristocracy who controlled the public lands, leading to his assassination by a mob of senators in 133 BC. His death marked the beginning of a century of political violence in the Roman Republic.
