Titus Flavius Josephus
Jewish commander in Galilee who surrendered to Vespasian, predicted his accession, and spent the rest of his life in Rome writing the history of the war he had fought on the losing side. Almost everything known about the destruction of the Temple comes from a man with reasons to shape the account, which is why he is read closely rather than simply believed.
