Tiziano Vecellio

The greatest Venetian painter and the most influential colourist in the history of Western art. His long career — he painted until nearly ninety — spanned the entire High Renaissance and prefigured the Baroque. He was court painter to Charles V, Philip II, and successive popes, shaping how power presented itself through portraiture. His loose, luminous late style directly influenced Velázquez, Rubens, and Rembrandt.
