Vice Admiral Horatio Nelson

Horatio Nelson was Britain's most celebrated naval commander, whose aggressive, unorthodox tactics won decisive victories at the Nile (1798) and Copenhagen (1801) before his final triumph at Trafalgar on 21 October 1805, where he broke the combined Franco-Spanish fleet's line of battle to destroy it as an effective force. He was fatally wounded by a French sharpshooter during the battle and died knowing of the victory, reportedly with the words 'Thank God, I have done my duty.'
