Vice Admiral Pierre-Charles Villeneuve
Pierre-Charles Villeneuve commanded the combined Franco-Spanish fleet at Trafalgar, where his force was decisively defeated by Nelson despite outnumbering the British in ships. Taken prisoner after the battle, he was released in 1806 and died shortly after returning to France, in circumstances long debated as suicide.
