Watson and Crick
James Watson (American) and Francis Crick (British) discovered the double-helix structure of DNA in 1953, launching molecular biology. They shared the 1962 Nobel Prize with Maurice Wilkins; Rosalind Franklin, whose X-ray data was crucial, died before the prize was awarded.
