William Clark
US Army officer and co-leader of the Corps of Discovery (1804–1806) alongside Meriwether Lewis. His meticulous maps of the Missouri and Columbia River systems remained the most accurate charts of the American West for decades; he later served as Superintendent of Indian Affairs and Governor of Missouri Territory.
