William III of the Netherlands
William III had a difficult temperament and clashed repeatedly with his ministers, but his reign saw the consolidation of parliamentary government and significant economic modernisation. He was also Grand Duke of Luxembourg in personal union. His death without male heirs ended the male Orange-Nassau line and brought Wilhelmina to the throne.
