Wladyslaw II Jagiello
Wladyslaw II Jagiello (c. 1352–1434) was Grand Duke of Lithuania and, from 1386, King of Poland — the founder of the Jagiellonian dynasty. His baptism into Christianity and marriage to Queen Jadwiga of Poland united the Lithuanian and Polish crowns in the Union of Krewo (1385). His greatest military triumph was the Battle of Grunwald (Tannenberg) in 1410, where he led the combined Polish-Lithuanian army to a decisive victory over the Teutonic Knights, shattering their military power and opening the era of the Jagiellonian state's supremacy in Central Europe.
