Xenophon
Xenophon joined Cyrus the Younger's failed bid for the Persian throne in 401 BCE. After Cyrus's death and the assassination of the Greek generals, Xenophon led the survivors thousands of miles back to Greece. His Anabasis, Hellenica, and Memorabilia are primary sources for 4th-century BCE Greek history and Socratic philosophy.
