Xerxes I
Xerxes I was the fourth King of Kings of the Achaemenid Persian Empire who launched the second Persian invasion of Greece in 480 BC, leading one of the largest armies the ancient world had seen. Despite early successes including the capture and burning of Athens, his fleet was defeated at Salamis and his army at Plataea, forcing a Persian withdrawal. He was later assassinated in a palace conspiracy in 465 BC.
