Founder of Ethiopia's Solomonic dynasty in 1270, who overthrew the Zagwe dynasty claiming direct descent from King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba via the legendary Menelik I -- a genealogical claim to legitimacy that Ethiopian emperors would maintain for seven centuries, until the dynasty's final overthrow in 1974.
