Yi Sun-sin

Defeated the Japanese invasion fleets of the 1590s in a sequence of engagements without losing a ship, cutting the supply line on which the army in Korea depended. At Myeongnyang he held a strait with thirteen vessels against a fleet many times that size, using the tidal race as part of the plan. Demoted and tortured by his own court mid-war on a rival's accusation, then reinstated when his replacement lost the fleet.
