Akkadian Empire
The Akkadian Empire (c. 2334-2154 BCE), founded by Sargon of Akkad, was the world's first multi-ethnic empire, controlling most of Mesopotamia and extending influence to Anatolia, the Levant, and the Persian Gulf. Its rulers promoted the Akkadian language alongside Sumerian, and created a centralized administrative system. The empire collapsed under a combination of Gutian invasions, internal rebellion, and possibly the 4.2 kiloyear climate event.
