Asante Empire
The Asante Empire (present-day Ghana) rose to dominance in the Gold Coast region in the early 18th century. It became the dominant power in the region through military expansion and participation in the Atlantic slave trade, exporting captives through the port of Cape Coast. Britain incorporated it into the Gold Coast colony after a series of Anglo-Asante Wars.
