Bhutan
Bhutan is a landlocked kingdom in the eastern Himalayas, bordered by India and China, with its capital at Thimphu. Long isolated under a Buddhist monarchy, it consolidated as a unified state in the early 20th century and has pursued a deliberately cautious path of modernisation, famously framing development around Gross National Happiness while transitioning to a constitutional monarchy.
