Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bosnia and Herzegovina declared independence from Yugoslavia in 1992. The subsequent Bosnian War (1992-95) became Europe's worst conflict since World War II. The Srebrenica massacre - where approximately 8,000 Bosniak Muslim men and boys were killed - constituted genocide under international law. The Dayton Accords (1995) ended the war but created a complex, divided state.
