Burkina Faso
Burkina Faso is a landlocked West African state in the Sahel, formerly the French colony of Upper Volta before independence in 1960; it adopted its present name in 1984. Its capital is Ouagadougou. Predominantly agricultural and one of the poorest countries in the world, it has faced recurrent political instability and a jihadist insurgency in its northern regions.
