Cambodia

Cambodia is a state in mainland Southeast Asia, bordered by Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, with its capital at Phnom Penh. Heir to the medieval Khmer Empire centred on Angkor, it became a French protectorate before independence in 1953. The mid-20th century brought war, the catastrophic Khmer Rouge period and Vietnamese intervention, after which it rebuilt as a constitutional monarchy.
