Chad
Chad is a large landlocked state in north-central Africa spanning the Sahara in the north and the Sahel and savanna in the south. Formerly part of French Equatorial Africa, it became independent in 1960. Lake Chad lies on its western border. Its post-colonial history has been shaped by civil war and regional conflict; its capital is N'Djamena.
