Colony of Malta

The Colony of Malta was a British Crown Colony in the central Mediterranean, comprising strategically vital islands between Europe and North Africa. Acquired after the Napoleonic Wars, its fortified Grand Harbour made it a key British naval base, and it endured heavy bombardment in the Second World War before gaining independence in 1964.
