Cornwall
Cornwall — a Brittonic Celtic culture of the far south-west. It descends from the kingdom of Dumnonia, the last Celtic territory of the region, only gradually absorbed by Wessex by the 10th century; held as a royal duchy and Cornish-speaking into the 18th century, it remains — like Wales — a Celtic culture set against English Wessex rather than a mere English county, and is recognised today as a national minority. Defined historically by tin and copper mining and a strong Methodism, its miners carried their skills around the world. The industry's collapse left a tourism-and-fishing economy, a revived Cornish language, Arthurian Tintagel and a proud 'Kernow' identity, with periodic calls for a Cornish assembly.
