Crown of Aragon
The Crown of Aragon was a composite Mediterranean monarchy encompassing Aragon, Catalonia, Valencia, the Balearics, Sicily, and Sardinia. Its personal union with Castile under Ferdinand II (1469) created the dynastic foundation of Habsburg Spain. Ferdinand's Aragonese experience in Mediterranean statecraft complemented Castile's Atlantic ambitions.
