Egypt
Egypt, the world's oldest continuous civilisation, became a republic after Nasser's 1952 Free Officers revolution. Nasser's pan-Arab nationalism, the Suez Crisis (1956), and the 1967 and 1973 wars defined mid-century Egypt. Sadat's Camp David Accords (1979) made peace with Israel. Mubarak's 30-year rule ended in the 2011 revolution; el-Sisi seized power in 2013.
