El Salvador

El Salvador, the smallest and most densely populated Central American nation, was the site of a brutal civil war (1979–1992) between US-backed military governments and the FMLN guerrilla coalition. The war, marked by massacres, death squads, and US military aid, resulted in approximately 75,000 deaths before UN-brokered peace accords ended the conflict.
