Emirate of Granada
The Nasrid Emirate of Granada was the last Muslim polity on the Iberian Peninsula, surviving as a tributary state to Castile for over two centuries. Its sophisticated court culture produced the Alhambra palace complex. The emirate's fall to Ferdinand and Isabella on 2 January 1492 completed the Reconquista and directly freed resources and crusading energy that Columbus redirected to the Atlantic.
