Federation of Malaya

The Federation of Malaya was a British-administered union of Malay states and settlements on the southern Malay Peninsula in Southeast Asia. Bringing together the formerly separate sultanates and Straits Settlements, it survived a communist insurgency before achieving independence in 1957, later forming the core of the wider federation of Malaysia.
