French Upper Volta

French colony (later overseas territory) in West Africa. Dissolved and reintegrated into French Soudan and Ivory Coast in 1932, then reconstituted in 1947. Gained independence on 5 August 1960 as the Republic of Upper Volta (renamed Burkina Faso in 1984).
