Grand Duchy of Baden

The Grand Duchy of Baden was formed in 1806 along the upper Rhine. Among the more liberal German states and a centre of the 1848 revolution, under Grand Duke Frederick I it became an early supporter of unification under Prussia and joined the German Empire in 1871.
