Grenada
Grenada gained independence from Britain in 1974. The 1979 revolution brought Maurice Bishop's New Jewel Movement to power, establishing close ties with Cuba and the Soviet Union. An internal coup within the NJM in October 1983 provided the pretext for the US invasion (Operation Urgent Fury), which deposed the revolutionary government and restored pro-Western rule.
