Guinea-Bissau

Guinea-Bissau is a small West African state on the Atlantic coast, including the Bijagos archipelago. A former Portuguese colony, it won independence in 1973 after an armed liberation struggle. Its post-independence history has been marked by coups and political instability. Largely agricultural, with cashew nuts a key export, its capital is Bissau.
