Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan, the largest of the Central Asian Soviet successor states, declared independence in December 1991 and joined the CIS through the Alma-Ata Declaration. Kazakhstan inherited a significant portion of the Soviet nuclear arsenal — the fourth largest in the world — which it transferred to Russia under the Lisbon Protocol.
